The Southeastern Mustangs will soon have their own football field. What they don’t have now is a coach.
The Blount County Board of Education accepted the resignation of Drew Barnett last week. Barnett resigned from the job after just one year as head coach of the Mustangs.
Under Barnett, the second-year program went just 1-8 but did pick up the first win in school history – a 34-6 victory over Holy Spirit of Tuscaloosa.
Barnett, a graduate of Rogers High School, came to Southeastern after serving as an assistant coach at Locust Fork and Hueytown.
The Mustangs were placed in Class 2A in the latest round of reclassification by the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Southeastern will compete in Region 6 with Addison, Cold Springs, Falkville, Sumiton Christian, Tanner, and Tarrant.
