Balanced Bulldogs too much for Hornets



Susan Moore piled up 423 yards of offense and held visiting Locust Fork to just 157 total yards in a 33-14 victory last Thursday night.

Susan Moore got a 1-yard run by Blake Weaver and a 9-yard pass from Justin Hawkins to Cody Sanders to take a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.

Locust Fork answered early in the second quarter with a 15-yard run from Taylor Hughes to pull to 14-6.

Locust Fork extended the lead to 20-6 midway through the second quarter on a 1-yard run by Evatt.

A pair of Susan Moore scores in the third quarter – a 5-yard run by Weaver and a 13-yard pass from Hawkins to Joshia Witt – to build a 33-6 lead headed to the final 12 minutes.

Neither offense was able to get on the board in the fourth quarter. Locust Fork’s defense scored the final points when linebacker Matthew Checkley stepped in front of a Bulldog pass and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown.

Locust Fork managed just 79 yards rushing on 28 carries as Flavio Guerrero and Victor Estrada led the Bulldog defense with 10 tackles each.

Hawkins led the Susan Moore offense, completing 24 of 33 passes for 264 yards with two touchdowns and one interception and rushing for 58 yards on just eight attempts.

Weaver had 53 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 17 carries.

John Evatt caught seven passes for 46 yards and a touchdown, Cody Sanders had five catches for 101 yards and a touchdown, and Witt had 76 yards and a touchdown on five receptions.

Susan Moore got interceptions from Hugo Hernandez and Freddie Hernandez.

Susan Moore improved to 8-2 on the year while Locust Fork finished the year at 3-7.
