Ascension/St. Vincent’s Blount has a new general surgeon. Katie Novitski (right) knows the importance of having services available locally. After all, Novitski was born and raised in the small, nearby community of Athens. People are important to her and being able to meet some of their medical needs in their own community is something that she thoroughly enjoys.
Novitski attended Samford University as an undergraduate with aspirations of becoming a chef and incorporating her love of nutrition into cooking. As life often does, her direction changed and Novitski ended up studying at UAB School of Medicine. When Novitski’s very first rotation was in pediatric surgery and she was able to see immediate improvements in patients after surgery, Novitski knew what area she wanted to pursue.
Having completed her residency at Brookwood, Novitski is now employed through the Ascension/ St. Vincent’s network. As a member of the Ascension/ St. Vincent’s team, Novitski is based at the downtown location and will travel to Ascension/St. Vincent’s Blount on Fridays. Her role at the downtown location is bariatric surgery. She loves being able to walk the journey with her patients, celebrating their successes, and being there when there are struggles.
While at Blount, Novitski will serve as a general surgeon and perform surgeries such as gallbladder removal, hernia repairs, skin lesion removal, appendectomies, as well as others. The goal is to work with various like-minded providers to focus on patients and offer a confidence of care unique to Ascension/St. Vincent’s Blount.
Novitski has already begun performing surgeries at the Blount location. She will receive patient referrals through the ER, other clinics, and other methods. Anyone needing to schedule an appointment for a procedure can call the office at 205-930- 2675.
Being what she describes as “Disney nerds,” Novitski and her husband make frequent trips to Walt Disney World. They enjoy anything Disney related. In addition, the couple enjoys traveling and spending time with their three furbabies.
