HOLLEY SMITH represented Susan Moore High School at the 2009 session of Alabama Girls State at Troy University in June. For one week, she became a citizen of an imaginary state and took part in the political life of her community. She ran for governor while at Girls State, which is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, and speaks to organizations upon invitation about her experiences there. Selected to attend because of her outstanding participation in her class, she is the daughter of Alan and Darlene Smith and the granddaughter of Kyle Wright, the late Barbara Wright, Hubert Smith, the late Linda Smith, and the late Royce Smith. Her high school honors include vice president, National Honor Society; “A” honor roll; 2008 homecoming senior high princess; maintenance of 4.0 GPA; cheerleader six years (varsity captain); member of Spanish and Pep clubs and drama team; 10th-grade class reporter; 11th-grade class treasurer; student government historian and representative 9th and 10th grades; and blood drive volunteer. She also is a member of Snead’s Open Door Ministries.
