Charges of manslaughter and negligent homicide have been filed against the girlfriend of a man who was gunned down in November 2014.
Megan Collins, 26, the girlfriend of the victim, was arrested in the shooting death of Clint Alan Myrick, 28. The incident took place at a home on Kelsoe Road, near Susan Moore.
Collins and Myrick had been in a relationship and had lived together but she told authorities that Myrick was not living with her at the time.
Myrick had returned to the house, armed with a baseball bat, according to authorities, in the early morning hours of Nov. 20.
Blount County deputies responded to a 911 call of a burglary in progress at the home around 1:30 a.m. Collins told authorities that she fired a warning shot with a shotgun, before firing another shot that struck Myrick in the upper body.
At the time, Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey said that the case would be bound over to a grand jury once law enforcement and the Department of Forensic Sciences (DFS) had finished their work.
Casey said this week that she received the autopsy report and, along with other evidence collected by law enforcement, led to charges being filed.
According to a release from the Blount County Sheriff’s Department, Collins is being held in the Blount County Jail with bond set at $20,000.
