The high school softball season moves to playoff-mode with area tournaments scheduled this week.
The only area tournaments to be held in Blount County will be at Oneonta and Susan Moore.
Oneonta will host the 4A Area 10 Tournament which also features Locust Fork, Ashville, and St. Clair County. The tournament gets underway tomorrow (Thursday) with Oneonta meeting Locust Fork at 3 p.m. followed by Ashville and St. Clair County at 4:30. The tournament will conclude Friday with the championship game scheduled for 6 p.m.
Susan Moore will host the 3A Area 13 tournament with games scheduled for today and tomorrow. Susan Moore meets Brindlee Mountain at 1 p.m. today followed by Sardis facing Holly Pond. The tournament finals are scheduled for tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
In Class 5A, Hayden will travel to topseeded Mortimer Jordan for the Area 11 tournament. Hayden meets Erwin tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the tournament’s first game with the winner advancing to take on the host Blue Devils at 7 p.m. tomorrow. The other first round game has Springville facing Pleasant Grove. the finals are scheduled for Saturday at 12 noon.
Appalachian will travel to Irondale for the 1A Area 9 tournament. The Lady Eagles will play St. Bernard in the first round with the winner taking on the host, Jefferson Christian. Only three teams are involved so this tournament is expected to wrap up Friday evening.
Finally, the Cleveland Lady Panthers got a jump on the rest of the county with a trip to Cold Springs for the 2A Area 13 tournament yesterday. Other teams involved in the tournament are Addison and Falkville.

Oneonta 2, St. Clair County 0 (12 innings)
The visiting Lady Redskins needed a win to guarantee the 4A Area 10 regular season title. They got it but they had to work overtime to get it.
Sophomore Rebecca Sloan went the full 12 innings for the Redskins and kept the Lady Saint offense under control throughout the day. She allowed just four hits and walked four while striking out 15.
The Oneonta offense had chances – the Lady Skins collected 11 hits on the day – but couldn’t break through until the 12th.
Morgan Latta led off the inning with a single. One out later, Kristen Gibson blasted a triple, scoring Latta. Sloan followed with an RBI double to score Gibson and the Redskins had a 2-0 lead.
Sloan then slammed the door on the Saints in the bottom of the inning to secure the win and the right to host the area tournament.
Gibson (2-for-6, triple, RBI, run), Sloan (2-for-6, double, RBI), and Latta (2-for- 6, run) led the offense. Alyssa Crim, Kelsey King, Jessica Loyd, and Jessica Grisso each had a hit.
Oneonta improved to 25-18-1 with the win.
