Area tournament time



The high school softball regular season will end this weekend and most area tournaments will begin next week. All tournaments will be double-elimination.

Class 1A Area 11 – there are only two teams so the area tournament will be a one-day affair with Meek hosting Appalachian on Monday, May 2. The first game will start at noon with the second game at 2 p.m. A third game, if necessary, would follow at 4 p.m.

Class 2A Area 11 – Sumiton Christian is the host school and this tournament will be played on Thursday, Feb. 5. No. 2 Southeastern will play No. 3 Tarrant at 10 a.m. with the winner to face the host school at noon. The championship game will be played at 4 p.m.

Class 2A Area 12 – this tournament, hosted by West End, will actually get underway Friday, April 29, with the hosts meeting Asbury at 4:30 p.m. followed by No. 2 Gaston against No. 3 Cleveland at 6 p.m. The second round will be played on Monday, May 2, with the finals set for Tuesday, May 3, or even Thursday, May 5.

Class 3A Area 10 – Holly Pond is the host school and this tournament will be played on Tuesday, May 3, and Thursday, May 5. The first round has No. 1 Holly Pond meeting No. 4 Vinemont at 11 a.m. followed by No. 2 Susan Moore and No. 3 Hanceville at 12:45 p.m. The championship game will be played Thursday, May 5, at 4 p.m.

Class 4A Area 10 – Good Hope is the host and this tournament will start on Tuesday, May 3, and could run through Friday, May 6. The first round will see No. 1 Good Hope facing No. 4 Locust Fork at 2 p.m. and No. 2 Oneonta playing No. 3 J.B. Pennington at 3:30 p.m. The championship game will be Thursday, May 5, at 6:30 p.m. with the if-necessary game on Friday, May 6, at 5 p.m.

Class 5A Area 11 – if this was the World Cup, this would be the “Group of Death.” This tournament is absolutely loaded with three of the top 10 teams (No. 2 Springville, No. 4 Hayden, No. 10 Moody) in the state trying to make it to the finals to secure a playoff berth. Springville is the top seed in the tournament and the the host and will face No. 4 Mortimer Jordan on Thursday, May 5, at 1:30 p.m. followed by No. 2 Hayden and No. 3 Moody at 3:15 p.m. The championship game is set for Friday, May 6, at 5:45 p.m. with the if-necessary game to follow.

The top two teams from each area will qualify for the North-Central Regional at Sokol Park in Tuscaloosa, May 12- 14.
