Approves superintendent’s recommendations in special meeting

Blount County Board of Education

The Blount County Board of Education met in a special meeting April 17, 2018, approving the following superintendent’s recommendations. It approved:

• the field trip request for Susan Moore High School junior cheerleaders to attend cheerleader camp in Panama City Beach, Fla., June 4-8.*

• entering a contract with Linda Tidwell to provide homebound instruction for a Cleveland High School student from April 4 to end of current school year.

• entering a contract with Charles Shirley to provide homebound instruction for a Susan Moore High School student from April 12 to end of current school year.

• extending a contract with Lindsey Jeter for a Hayden Middle School student through May 1.

• allowing Hayden Middle School to contract with Franklin Covey for the Leader in Me initiative, to be paid from Hayden Middle School’s 2018-2019 federal funds.

• allowing Locust Fork High School to host a basketball camp May 29 to June 1; costs to be paid from the school’s local funds; proceeds to be deposited into the school’s boys’ basketball account.

• allowing Susan Moore High School to host a cheer camp April 30 to May 5; costs to be paid from the school’s local funds; proceeds to go to the school’s varsity cheerleader account.

• Wendy Saye, LPN, as substitute school nurse for the remainder of the current school year.

• accepting resignations of Jason Brakefield, special education aide at Hayden Middle School, effective at the end of this school year; Brian Cochran, custodian at Hayden Middle School, effective April 13; Morgan Henley, teacher at Cleveland Elementary school, effective May 25; and Kristy Posey, teacher at Cleveland Elementary School, effective May 25.

• accepting retirement resignations of Sherry Armstrong, Child Nutrition Program director, effective July 1; Vergil England, teacher at Hayden High School, effective June 1; James Hammond, school bus driver for Blount County Learning Center, effective June 1; Deborah Jackson, teacher at Appalachian High School, effective June 1; Janie Kirkpatrick, teacher at Cleveland Elementary School, effective June 1; Terri Marsh, child nutrition program employee at Hayden High School, effective June 1; Glenn Martin, teacher at Blount County Learning Center, effective June 1; Blake Pettus, teacher at Cleveland Elementary school, effective May 25; Margaret Plyler, teacher at Hayden Middle School, effective June 1; Karen Freeman, ISS manager at Blount County Learning Center, effective June 1; Lisa Gamble, Child Nutrition Program manager at J. B. Pennington School, effective July 1; and Johnny Pullen, director of the Blount County Career Technical Center, effective July 1.

• granting medical leaves of absence to Kimberlee Ryan, school bus driver for Hayden schools, from April 2 to May 25, or upon a physician’s release to return to work, whichever comes first, and Mary Brittany Purpura Sanders, counselor at Susan Moore High School and J. B. Pennington High School, from May 2 to May 25.

• employing Stephanie Leigh Overstreet as a child nutrition program director for Blount County Schools, effective April 30.

• Jeff Graves, teacher at Blount County Learning Center, to receive the 2018-2019 supplement for head boys’ basketball coach at Cleveland High School.

• Gregory Rogers, teacher at Cleveland High School, to receive the 2018-2019 supplement for head girls’ basketball coach at Cleveland High School.

• entering a contract with Nancy Caffee to provide homebound instruction for a Locust Fork High School student from April 18 to the end of the current school year.
