The home team didn’t have a chance. Visiting Appalachian sprinted out to a 28-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back in a 54-7 thrashing of Jefferson Christian last Friday night.
Appalachian got a 4-yard run by Jake Cornelius, an 8- yard run by Cameron Cox, a 5-yard run from Esgar Covarrubias, and an 18-yard pass from Cox to Dustin Brady to take a 28-0 lead.
Jonathan Metzler added a 45-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to extend the lead to 35-0.
The lead grew to 48-0 after three quarters as the Eagles got touchdowns from Covarrubias (50-yard punt return) and Metzler (54-yard run).
Jefferson Christian got on the board in the fourth quarter on a 34-yard run by Bronson Harris but the Eagles closed out the scoring with a 10-yard run by Dustin Stallings.
Appalachian pounded out 295 yards of offense while limiting Jefferson Christian to 93 total yards.
The Eagles had 265 yards on the ground as 12 different players had carries. Metzler led the team with 116 yards and two touchdowns on just three rushes while Cox added 54 yards and a touchdown on two carries.
Cox completed both of his passing attempts for 33 yards.
Michael Frederick led the Eagle defense with nine tackles while Tim Strickland had six.
Appalachian hosts Parkway Christian this week.
