Energize Alabama, a network of people promoting energy conservation and renewable energy, will sponsor the annual Solar Homes Tour Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 1 and Oct. 2, in Blount County.
The three-hour walking tours start at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will visit four sites, including strawbale and underground homes.
Displayed will be passive solar building designs that heat in winter and cool in summer. Solar technologies on view are photo voltaic systems for generating electricity and solar thermal for hot water.
Architects, builders, contractors, and home-repair persons are welcome. Sponsors invite you to find out how to make your home more energy efficient. Come for a brown-bag lunch between 12 noon and 2 p.m. to learn more about solar designs, energy efficiency, or whatever. Energize Alabama will provide the porch and drinks and the 30-minute film “Kilowatt Ours” during the two hours between the tours.
To register, e-mail SolarTourAlabama @gmail.com or phone Daryl Bergquist, 429-3088.
