The American Legion’s North Alabama District 12 held a meeting at Post 129 in Blountsville Feb. 2. It has been almost eight years since the district’s posts have met in Blount County, according to Blount County Commander Larry Stone. Pictured above are leaders and post commanders from Blount, Cullman, Limestone, Madison, and Morgan counties. District 12 posts have a combined membership of about 3,000.
The district leadership donated $500 to the upcoming Honor Flight for Blount County veterans. Stone said the Blount County posts will match that gift and also contribute $1,000 to the Veterans Affairs Hospital van that provides transportation for veterans to the VA Hospital in Birmingham. The Blount posts also secured two more scholarships for the American Legion’s Alabama Boys and Girls State programs, which brings the number of scholarships to 20 for Blount County incoming seniors.
