The J.B. Pennington Tigers hung close for a half but in the end the top team in 3A Region 7 was too strong as the Hamilton Aggies pulled away for a 38-16 win at Hamilton last Friday night.
Pennington was able to move the ball against the Aggie defense, especially on the ground, but the potent Hamilton offense proved to be too much for the Tiger defense.
Hamilton jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and led 24-10 at the half. Pennington trailed 31- 10 after three quarters.
The Tigers pounded out 353 rushing yards, led by Wesley Stephens’s 135 yards on 16 carries.
He got plenty of help as Justin Philyaw ran for 92 yards on 10 carries and Brandon Cole added 90 yards and a touchdown on eight attempts. Dustin Sivley finished with 36 yards on just five carries.
Stephens and Cole had touchdown runs for the Tigers and Charlie Rojas kicked a field goal.
Sivley led the Tiger defense with 14 tackles. Hamilton improved to 7-1 overall, 6-0 in the region. Pennington fell to 2-6 overall, 2-4 in the region.
