A couple of notes, if you don’t mind:

• Congratulations to the Locust Fork Lady Hornets for winning the 3A state championship last week in Birmingham. You ladies deserve the title because of your commitment to hard work and doing things the right way. No shortcuts for these ladies and their no-nonsense head coach, Barbara Roy.

I didn’t see all the games in Birmingham but I would hazard a guess that few teams had the support in the stands that Locust Fork enjoyed. Hats off to the Locust Fork community – you guys were loud and energetic and showed the support that your team deserved.

• In the coming weeks readers will see the first of a series of series (surely there is a better way of saying that) where we go more in-depth on a certain issue or topic or event.

We are putting the finishing touches on the first of what I hope is something readers will enjoy, participate in and – most importantly – think about.

• Finally, this week (on page 3, actually) you will find the first edition of a weekly feature. Kevin Slimp is well-known in the newspaper industry and this week we debut his feature The Good Folks of Lennox Valley. It’s something a little different than what you have seen from us before and we hope you like it.

As always, send me your thoughts, please, to robrice@otelco.net and tell me what you think. -rr
