William Wesley and O’Geeda Aniton of the Sand Valley community are one amazing couple. They have been married 70 years, and they are still going strong.

The couple met in Cleveland, Ohio, when O’Geeda’s cousin, Emma Jean Lewis, introduced them. Mrs. Aniton, 91, believes their first date was to the movies. She said that it was so long ago that it is hard to remember. When asked what she thought of Mr. Aniton, 94, when she met him, she replied, “He was real nice.”

The Anitons married on Dec. 4, 1948. The couple lived in Ohio for several years before moving to O’Geeda’s hometown of Cordova. The Anitons lived in Cordova for 40 years and then moved to Mr. Aniton’s stomping grounds of Oneonta in 1990.

The Anitons have two children, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. They enjoy spending time with their family and attend church at The Anchor. Mrs. Aniton said regarding their long marriage, “It hasn’t been all cookies and cake, but we made it through.”
