Truck-Driving Man by Valra Henderson

While you're driving down the freeway,

Do you see the freightliner entitled Ofusa?

Inside there's a guy with salt and pepper hair.

What's he doing up there?

What does he see?

Smiling children with eyes saying, "Look at me."

He looks again and smiles

Which will linger for miles and miles.

Children signal for him to toot the horn.

In that moment, trust is born.

And so he does and thinks of his own.

Wondering about them while he's miles from home.

He misses his family, friends, and TV.

But on the road, he has freight and CB.

A car accident claimed his mom when he was 10.

On the road, he relives it again and again.

Taught in the Marines to be the few and proud.

On the road, with freedom greatly endowed.
