Phillips, affectionately
known as “Mack,” age
93, of Altoona, passed
away peacefully May
23, 2026.
Edward was born
June 4, 1932, in Al-
abama. He proudly
served his country as
a veteran of the United
States Army, carrying
himself with honor, integrity, and dedication.
He was also a faithful member of Philadel-
phia Baptist Church, where he cherished his
faith and community throughout his life.
Edward was preceded in death by his father
John “Johnny” Thomas Phillips; his mother Lillie
Green Phillips; his brothers Willard Phillips
(Maxine) and Donald Richard
Phillips (Sue Carol); his sister Willene Phil-
lips Waugh (Charles “Bunkum”); his daughter
Susan “Susie” Anita Phillips Bryant; his son-
in-law William “Bill” Lawson Bryant; his wives
Virginia Sue Cain Phillips and Willow Dee Mont-
gomery Reeves Phillips; and his grandson Corley
Sander Phillips.
He is lovingly survived by his son Myrlon
Scott Phillips (Mauara); his daughter Cynthia
Leigh Phillips Travis (Keith); five grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren; as well as a host
of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends all of
whom will forever cherish his memory and the
love he shared with his family.
A graveside service was held at Oak Hill
Cemetery Tuesday, May 26, 2026, with minister
Robbie Burtram officiating. Pallbearers were
Greg Bryant, Lawson Bryant, Dack Phillips, Scott
Phillips, Rick Sanders, Eric Sanders, and Curtis
Weems. Honorary pallbearer was Rich Reams.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests
that donations be made in Edward’s memory to
the Blount County Amateur Radio Club, a veter-
an’s charity, or a charity of your choice.
