James Melvin
Weems, age 79, of
Cleveland, passed
peacefully into his
heavenly home on May
10, 2026, surrounded
by the love of his fam-
ily and friends. Melvin
was a hardworking
truck driver for many
years, dedicating his
life to providing for those he loved. More than
anything, he treasured his family and took great
pride in being a father, pawpaw, and “GP.”
He was preceded in death by his parents,
Odessa and Lando “Hubert” Weems Sr.; his
sister, Carolyn Hallmark; and his brother, Lando
\“Hubert” Weems Jr. “Bug.” As well as his daugh-
ter-in-law, Sandy Weems.
Melvin was known for his generous heart,
quick wit, and ability to make anyone smile. He
was the kind of man who would help anyone
in need without hesitation, and his presence
brought comfort and laughter to those around
him. The memories he created with his family
and friends will be cherished forever.
He is survived by Dean Weems, his sons,
James Weems, Johnny Weems (Pam), and Jessie
Weems (Teresa); his sister, Mary Byess; his
brother, Larry W. Weems Sr. (Wanda); as well as
many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchil-
dren, nieces, nephews, extended family mem-
bers, and friends.
The family would like to express their sin-
cere gratitude to his caregiver, Ms. Joy, for the
compassion, care, and friendship she showed
Melvin. Her kindness and dedication brought
great comfort not only to him, but to the entire
family.
While he will be deeply missed, his loved
ones take peace in knowing he is reunited with
those who went before him and is resting safely
in the arms of the Lord.
The family received friends on Wednesday,
May 13, 2026, at Lemley Funeral Home from
9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. A funeral service was
held in the chapel beginning at 11 a.m. with
Greg Hallmark presiding. Burial followed in
Green's Chapel Cemetery. Asked to serve as pall-
bearers were Jeremy Weems, Ethan McCormack,
Bentley McCormack, James Weems Jr., Lance
Hughs, and Kimberly Weems.
