Betty Sue Cadden,
age 78, of Pine Mountain,
passed away April 23, 2026,
peacefully at home with her
family after a long battle of
health issues.
She was preceded in
death by her loving husband
Garrett Cadden; her parents
Luther Smith and Myrtle
Head; sisters Opal Smith,
Carolyn Alexander, Jessie
Mae Hutchins, Linda Alonzo,
and Pauline Wilson; broth-
ers Ed Smith and Ray Smith.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law
Norma and Doyle Alexander; grandsons Ryan and Joseph
Alexander; sisters Frances Head (James) and Barbara Lynn
Smith; brother Billy Joe Smith (Beverly); nieces and neph-
ews; and a host of special friends.
She dedicated her life to helping others. She was a
paramedic since 1990. One of her hobbies was collecting
bells and she had hundreds of them. Her other love was
baking cakes; she probably had any kind of cake pan you
could ever want. There was nothing she could not do if she
set her mind to it.
The family received friends Saturday, April 25, 2026,
at Lemley Funeral Home from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Mrs. Cadden lay in state at Union Hill Baptist Church
Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 1 to 2 p.m.. A funeral ser-
vice was held at the church beginning at 2 p.m. with Paul
Richey, Greg Corbin, and Herman Pair presiding. Burial
followed in Pleasant Mount Cemetery.
Asked to serve as pallbearers were Ryan Alexander,
Joseph Alexander, A.J. Elrod, Tyler Williams, Jon Head,
and Jeff Bryant. Honorary pallbearers were Doyle Alex-
ander, Billy Joe Smith, Ronnie Woods, James Head, and
Parker Dale Williams.
