Marie Johnson Lochamy,
March 11, 2026
In loving memory
of Marie Johnson
Lochamy, who was
born Sept. 29,1929,
in Blount County to
her loving parents,
Armenda and Grady
Johnson. They lived and
worked on their family
farm, where they grew
mainly watermelon and
peaches, but she did not
like to pick cotton. Marie
was the oldest of three
children, having two younger brothers, Kenneth
and John Johnson. Marie was the only girl and the
apple of her daddy’s eye. She attended elementary
school at Nectar and graduated high school in 1947
from Hayden High School.
On Aug. 14, 1948, she married Joe Lochamy, and
two years later, on Aug. 20, 1950, they welcomed
a daughter, Joella. Joe worked for Alabama Power
and for a brief time they lived in Eufaula, but in
1954, Joe and Marie moved to Cleveland, and lived
there the rest of their lives. As young parents, they
loved spending time with Joella and her friends.
Baseball and softball were the things they enjoyed,
as well as playing Rook. Marie had another baby
in March 1966, Chris, but he only lived two days.
On Dec. 5, 1967, their third child, Stacey, was born.
The family was complete and filled with love for
each other.
Marie loved to cook and she sewed clothes
for herself, Joella, and Stacey; she was quite
the seamstress. Her cornbread was legendary
and a nightly staple for supper, along with fresh
vegetables. In later years, Marie’s hobbies included
lots of shopping and she loved to eat out, especially
at Cracker Barrel or Top of the River.
When her grandsons came along, first John
Wright in 1984 and then Joseph Hill in 1999,
Marie became known as Mimi. She loved being
their Mimi most of all. If there was an event they
were participating in, Mimi was there. She adored
her family and she was equally adored by all.
Marie went to her eternal glory on Feb. 19, 2026,
surrounded by her family. Nothing that is loved is
ever lost. No one who has touched a life, who has
brought beauty to the world, is ever truly gone.
Those we cherish always live on in our memories.
Marie was truly cherished by her family and the
memories she leaves behind are priceless.
Visitation was noon to 2 p.m.Feb. 22, 2026, at
Cleveland Funeral Home. Funeral service began at
2 p.m. followed by burial at High Rock Cemetery.
