James Allen Daily of Oneonta, Ala., passed away on March 1, 2024. James was born in Oneonta on Oct. 12, 1937, to the late Iva Lee and Wes Daily. He grew up in Oneonta and was educated at Oneonta High School, graduating in 1956. He attended Jacksonville State University on a tennis scholarship and graduated with a degree in accounting. 

  Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army and began his service stationed in Verdun, France as the finance officer for Trois-Fontaines Ammunition Depot.  He married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart Dixie Rebecca “Bunky” Kitchens in 1961. They began their 63-year marriage in France.

  The couple attended The University of Alabama together. James graduated with a master’s degree in counseling psychology.  He worked for the Veterans’ Administration as a clinical psychologist for over 30 years, serving in Muscle Shoals, Mobile, Birmingham and Huntsville. The couple settled in Oneonta after the birth of their daughter, Elizabeth.

  A lifetime athlete, James enjoyed playing tennis and golf, participating on numerous teams in the communities in which he lived.

  He is survived by his wife, Dixie Kitchens Daily; his daughter, Elizabeth Moore (Brian); his grandson, Owen Daily Moore and his sister, Reba Daily Cary, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Iva Lee and Wes Daily. 

A Celebration of Life was held on Monday, March 4, 2024 at the Oak Hill Chapel located inside of Oak Hill Cemetery with Bro. Harvey Beck and Bro. Bill Cofield presiding.
