Simon Peter Martin
, 88 of Blountsville passed away Wednesday Aug.6, 2025, at Marshall Medical Center North. Mr. Martin was born Oct. 1, 1936, in Blount County, the son of Elmer Thomas Martin and Myrtha Isabell Blackwell Martin.
He was a graduate of J.B. Pennington High School and served four years in the US Navy. He and Helen Downer Martin were married on June 21, 1958. After serving in the Navy, he worked as a railroad switchman for several years and later went to work at Redstone Arsenal where he worked for more than 40 years before retiring. He continued to enjoy cattle farming and gardening until the end. He was a long-time member of Blountsville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife Helen Martin; children Michael Thomas Martin (Pam), Martha Martin Yount (Jim), and Sarah Martin Webster (Eric); grandchildren Janine Martin McNair (Sam), Andrew Martin(Bonnie), Hannah Yount Chumley (Ben), Meredith Yount, Scott Martin (Kristen), Faulkner Webster, Sarah Yount (Daren), and Caleb Webster (Sara Mae); great grandchildren Nicholas McNair, Scarlett McNair, Tyler Martin, Lana Martin, Gracelyn Smith, Jack Thomas Martin expected in Sept. 2025, and Gemma Mae Chumley expected in Oct. 2025. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer Thomas and Myrtha Isabell Martin; son James Peter Martin; his wife Cynthia; siblings Jack Elson Martin, James Allen Martin, Vida Elizabeth “Beth” Martin Grimwood, Ned B. Martin, William Henry Martin, Thomas Edward Martin, Robert Lee Martin, Sydney J. Martin, Daniel S. Martin, Sr., and Peggy Martin Johnston.
Funeral Service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at Blountsville Funeral Home with Mike Carver officiating. Burial with Military Honors was in Antioch Cemetery. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Frida,y Aug. 8, at Blountsville Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Andrew Martin, Faulkner Webster, Sam McNair, Nicholas McNair, Daren Jones, and Caleb Webster.
