“Her children rise up and call her
blessed...” – Proverbs 31:28

Myrtle Thomas, age 99, a devoted wife and mother, cherished grandmother and greatgrandmother, and faithful servant of Christ, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Aug. 1, 2025, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family.

Born in Blount County on Oct. 30, 1925, Myrtle lived nearly a century as a shining example of a Proverbs 31 woman – dignified, strong, wise, and full of grace. She lived her life rooted in faith, clothed in kindness, and anchored in prayer. Myrtle was known for her quiet strength, her gentle spirit, and her unwavering love for God and others.
She was a woman of deep faith, whose greatest joy was serving her Lord Jesus Christ. Myrtle’s Bible was always nearby, worn from years of study and marked by tears, prayers, and praise. Whether serving in the church or comforting the hurting, she lived to serve and reflect Christ’s love.
Myrtle was the heart of her family, raising her children with love, wisdom, and discipline, and later becoming a treasured Maw Maw who passed down stories, scripture, and a love for good ole gospel music. Her legacy of faith, love, and perseverance will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by husband Houston Thomas Sr.; son Thomas Jr.; daughter Shirley Seitz; granddaughter Michelle Sissom; grandson Mike Thomas; daughter-in-law Lorene Thomas; parents Joe and Luddie Hayes.
She is survived by sons Chester Thomas (Sherry) and Rickey Thomas; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grand children.
Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing that Myrtle (Momma, MawMaw) has heard the words she longed to hear: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23)
