Nellie Ruth Townson Caster

Nellie Ruth Townson Caster, 88, of Blountsville, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at TLC Nursing Home in Oneonta. She was born Sept. 24, 1936, the daughter of Oliver Smith and Hattie Mae Oaks Smith. She was married to Odis T. Townson, who passed away Oct. 12, 1957. On Aug. 8, 1959, she married James Edwin Caster, and was married 56 years at the time of his passing Feb. 6, 2016. 

She is survived by her children Kenneth Townson, Judy King, Cathy Self (Roger), Rick Townson (Lynn), and James E. Caster, Jr. (Linda); sisters Dollie Sims, Pam Underwood, and Jeannette Glass; brother Gary Smith; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husbands Odis Townson and James E. Caster; daughter Tammy McGuire; son Danny Townson; son-in-law Danny King; siblings Olivia Smith, Dimple Nelson, Eloise Gunter, Millicent Faulkner, Jerry Smith, Toney Smith, and Pete Smith. 

Funeral Service was 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Blountsville Funeral Home with Jason Bryson officiating and eulogy by Rick Townson. The burial was in Roswell Creek Cemetery, Blountsville Funeral Home directing. 

Visitation was noon-2 p.m. Saturday at Blountsville Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Dale Self, Anthony Self, Noah King, Daniel Dickson, Cole Dickson, and Drew Dickson.
