cEmory Jay Morton, Sr., 91, of Altoona, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family
after a long illness.
He was born Aug. 18, 1933, in Hendrix, son of the late John Herman Morton and Naomi Grace Jones. He is preceded in death by his daughter Joan Mechelle Brown; sister Mary Ruth Marshall; and brothers Herman Gaither Morton and Gurley Gene Morton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Edna Holt Morton; daughter Lynne Poore; son Emory Jay Morton, Jr. (Celia); and son-in-law David Brown.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other loving family members, and friends.
He served in the United States Military Services Army Division where he was recognized for his outstanding marksmanship. He was an active member of the Texas National Guard.
He was the founder of his own business and was known for his strong work ethic that exceeded beyond his retirement at age 75. His greatest joy was being with his family and working on his beloved farm. He was dearly loved by his family and will be truly missed.

The family received friends on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Lemley Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. A funeral service was held in the chapel beginning at 2 p.m. with John Fallin presiding. Burial followed in Hood Cemetery. Asked to serve as pallbearers were Kenny Marshall, Frankie Marshall, Ricky Gibbs, Jeremy Young, John Tuck, and Aaron Parker.
