Spring Adventures: From Whitewater Thrills to Rodeo Skills... Festivals and Downtown Fun

May 07, 2025

Spring has officially sprung in Blount County, and that means it’s time to get outside!
Paddle Power at the Locust Fork Classic
Whitewater set an attendance record at this year’s Locust Fork Classic! While the weather canceled the second day of racing, the first day saw thrilling runs down the Locust Fork River and plenty of fun. Racers traveled from as far away as Wyoming, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Georgia to compete and connect with fellow paddling enthusiasts. Even after the cancellation, many kayaks were spotted all over Blount County as paddlers made pit stops at local restaurants and stores on their way home. It was a big weekend for adventure—and for local business!
Rodeo Roundup: The Sheriff’s Rodeo Delivered Big
The Blount County Sheriff’s Rodeo returned with all the excitement we’ve come to love: barrel racing, bull riding, roping, and more. Families came out in full force to welcome the rodeo back under the arena lights, enjoy the food vendors, and celebrate this proud Blount County tradition.
Downtown Oneonta: Where It’s Happening
Our downtown is buzzing with energy this season. If you haven’t noticed, the Oneonta Downtown District and OBA are providing some new downtown fun, so please get out and support our downtown merchants! From shopping and dining to art and live music, there’s always something new to discover.
Two new and exciting trails:
The Blount County Barbecue Trail, featuring our most mouthwatering local joints and food trucks (get ready for a saucy road trip!)
The Blount County Mural Trail, a self-guided art tour showcasing bold, beautiful works of wall art—perfect for your next Instagram post.
Festival Season Is Blooming
May and June are packed with festivals across the county—craft fairs, plant sales, music nights, and more.
