Eagles, Mustangs, Hornets, Panthers Head to Regionals

For the fourth straight season, the Southeastern Lady Mustangs finished the season number one in their area. With that comes home field for the area tournament, and they took full advantage, sweeping their 2A Area 8 opponents. They topped Ranburne 11-1 in their opening game. After Ranburne beat Vincent for a second time, they would face the Mustangs again in the championship game. Southeastern took care of Ranburne one more time, beating them 13-2. The 20-12 Mustangs now face the 6-12 Loachapoka Indians in the opening round of the 2A Central Regional in Montgomery’s Lagoon Park at 9 a.m. Monday.

In 2A Area 12, the Lady Panthers beat Susan Moore twice to make it to the championship game where they would face West End for the second time. While the Lady Patriots would win the title, the runner up Panthers earned a spot in the 2A East Region at Albertville’s Sand Mountain Park. This mark’s Cleveland’s second straight season to make it to regionals. The 14-22 Panthers will face the 11-11-1 Decatur Heritage Christian Academy Eagles. Game time is 9 a.m. Monday.

The Lady Hornets won the 3A Area Tournament. They beat J.B. Pennington 20-1 in their first game and Hanceville 5-4 in their next game. After Hanceville knocked off Pennington in the elimination round, the Lady Bulldogs would meet Locust Fork again. The Hornets shut out Hanceville 11-0 to win the championship. Locust Fork heads into the 3A East Regional with a record of 18-9. Their first game is at 10:45 a.m. Monday at Albertville’s Sand Mountain Park against the 8-19 Glencoe Yellowjackets.
