William Norman ‘Norm’ Basden

WILLIAM NORMAN ‘NORM’ BASDEN, 80, Oneonta, died Oct. 5, 2017. He was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church and formerly attended The Peoples Church in Hueytown. He founded a Halo Club at St. Vincent’s Hospital for the nurses and staff. He was a Southern gospel music promoter and had sung with groups Deep South Boys and The Commanders. Known as a hard worker and sharp dresser, he enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, and was involved with the Birmingham international racing community in Hueytown. Predeceasing him were parents H.G. and Eva Mae Allen Basden, wives Christine Basden and Peggy Basden, and brother Jerry Allen Basden.

Surviving are sons Bruce (Debra) Basden, Lipscomb, Christopher (Brooklyn) Basden, Oneonta; daughter Jill Tolbert, Morris; grandchildren Derek Basden, Dustin Basden, Justin Lacy, Taylor Faye Basden, Matthew Basden, John Paul Basden, Noah Basden, Tyler Tolbert, Hannah Tolbert; great-grandchildren Hunter Basden, Bailey Ann Lacy; brother Bob (Joan) Basden, Ashville; sisters Barbara Kennedy, Jan Zook, both of Eufala; special friend Judy Watkins, Oneonta.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 10 at Park Avenue Baptist Church with burial at Forest Grove Cemetery. Lemley Funeral Home and Crematory directed.
