Wildcats reign over Hornets
This year’s Blount County Softball Tournament brought cooler temperatures and ended with a drencher. However, that did not stop the Hayden Wildcats (above) from prevailing. Tori Knighten led the Wildcats offensively, going 6-of-10 from the plate. Savannah Painter was also phenomenal, pitching 11 1/3 innings without giving up an earned run. Coach Simmons attributes their 15-0 win to their “defensive depth and the pitchers doing their job,” adding that they have only two seniors and two juniors (one of whom is out for the season). “With this being a young team, we are just starting to find our identity. Now we want to be consistent the rest of the season,” Simmons said. The Wildcats host Curry tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
