THE TOWN OF HIGHLAND LAKE will have the third annual 5K Run at Highland Lake on Saturday, Oct. 7, beginning at 8 a.m. Team categories include group, corporation, and schools. Proceeds benefit the Animal Adoption Center of Blount County and prizes will be awarded to the team that raises the most money. Walkers welcome.

The third annual Wag Walk and Dog Costume Contest will be Saturday, Oct. 7, beginnng at 9:30 a.m., immediately following the 5K. Entry fee is $15 and a bag of Purina Puppy Chow. Contest categories include Funniest and Most Creative Costume and Best in Show categories. ONEONTA PARK AND RECREATION is now accepting teams to play in the boys basketball league. Division are 8-under, 10-under and 12-under (age as of Sept. 1, 2017). The registration deadline is Oct. 26. ONEONTA BOYS YOUTH BASKETBALL REGISTRATION will continue through Thursday, Oct. 12, Monday through Thursday until 4 p.m. each day at the Oneonta Rec Center. Registration is for kindergarten through sixth grade and players must not turn 13 before Sept. 1, 2017, to be eligible. Applications for coaches will also be accepted.
