ROBERT ‘ROB’ BRYAN RICE, passed away on March 29, 2018, at the age of 49. He was very involved in Oneonta, the community he loved. He worked for many years as a sports broadcaster at WCRL Radio and continued to broadcast county football games after he purchased The Blount Countian newspaper, where he was owner and editor. He was president of the Oneonta Park and Recreation Board, a Blount County Children’s Center board member, a board member with OFFER, and a member of Redeemer Community Church where he was part of the worship experience team. Predeceasing him were parents Verlon and Faye Rice and sister Stacey Rice Minshew.
Left to cherish his memories are wife Jamie Rice; sons Jakob Rice, deputy Justin (Jessica) Moore, staff sergeant Chase (Tiffany) Moore; grandchildren Carson Blakey and Declan Moore; nephew Caleb Rice (Meghan) Minshew; cousin Nora Harper; aunt Carolyn Tucker.
Matt Scott officiated the 1 p.m. service held April 2 at Oneonta First Baptist Church with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Jamon Peoples, Jeremy Hyde, Donny Ray, Lee Guyton, Gary Hunt, Chris Hubauer, and Jeremy Lesley. Honorary pallbearers were Andrew Harper, Gavin Harper, and Caleb Rice Minshew. Donations to the family are suggested at Hometown Bank, Jamie and Jakob Rice, Oneonta.
