Oneonta School Board lays groundwork for ad valorem referendum next year

In a work session prior to a called meeting Sunday to consider hiring a new superintendent, The Oneonta City Board of Education discussed progress toward calling for a property tax increase referendum early next year. Additional revenue to meet accelerating needs for important capital projects on the near horizon – as well as expanding operational needs – has been the subject of board discussions since early this summer.

Members discussed preliminary estimates of possible impacts of various millage rates, deferring any decisions until more definitive data is developed. A timeline for meeting various benchmarks required to schedule the referendum was briefly discussed.
