EMERGENCY PERSONNEL TO BE HONORED Blountsville Chapter #389, Order of the Eastern Star, will honor all Blount County police, fire, and sheriff’s department personnel at a dinner May 8 beginning at 2 p.m. A speaker from the state attorney general’s office is expected, as well as the sheriff and the Blountsville police chief. The Eastern Star planned the dinner as a token of appreciation to the emergency personnel for all they do to help everyone.

 

 


TICKETS FOR THE SPRING MUSICAL All Shook Up
at Oneonta High School are now on sale. Performance dates are Saturday, May 15, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 16, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $7 each and can be purchased in the high school library. Those who come and support the OHS music and drama department will enjoy a fun, energetic musical with hits from Elvis that all will know.

MORRIS/HAMBY FAMILY REUNION will be May 15 beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the second closed-in building at Palisades Park in Blount County. Bring a covered dish.

FIRST ANNUAL SPRING CARNIVAL will be held Tuesday, May 18, through Saturday, May 22, at the Blount County- Oneonta Agribusiness Center. The $8 admission includes unlimited rides. Gates open at 5:00 nightly for the thrill rides, fun games, and good food. See www.bco abc.com

TENTH ANNUAL DAY ON THE RIVER will be sponsored Saturday, June 19, between 8:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. by Friends of the Locust Fork River. Certified canoe instruction, get-wet ecology, snakes, and more will be on the agenda. There will be fun and learning for county children in grades 3 to 6 who are accompanied by adults. Preregistration is required by June 11; see www.flfr.org.

ONEONTA CITY BOARD OF EDUCATION will have a special personnel meeting May 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom. The board’s regular May meeting has been changed to May 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom as the regular meeting date falls on the Memorial Day holiday.

ONEONTA CITY HALL EMPLOYEES made baskets for the recent 2010 American Cancer Society relay for life. They express sincere thanks to the merchants and individuals who gave donations for the baskets or purchased tickets to win baskets. They say the help received made the relay even more successful.
