National Adoption Day celebrated

(From left) Department of Human Resources (DHR) quality assurance supervisor Robert Burrow, Oneonta Mayor Ross Norris, and DHR program supervisor Cheryl Helton share a celebratory moment as the mayor reads a resolution passed by the city council recognizing Nov. 23 as National Adoption Day. Members of the local DHR organization, along with board members, adoptive families and children celebrated the event at the DHR office on Nov. 13. The event also acknowledged the 12 children adopted in Blount County since January 2013. National Adoption Day is a way to raise awareness of the more than 100,000 children in foster care in the U.S. who are waiting to be adopted. Singled out for special thanks are Shirley’s Fine Jewelry in Oneonta, White Jewelry in Cullman, and Carla Wilson of Alabama Post- Adoption Connections for their contributions to adoption gifts for children.
