Nancy Martin Nash

NANCY MARTIN NASH, 80, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 26, 2017. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James Paul Nash, and her parents Voleene Edington Martin and William Gervis Martin. She is survived by her sister, Cynthia Ellen Martin; daughters Karmon (Allen) Hendricks and Suzanne Nash Stewart; grandchildren Nash Yielding (Cienna Rominger), Brianna Atchison, John (Ryan) Hendricks, Jeff Hendricks, Wilson Rawls Stewart, Julia Bynum Stewart, and Samuel Paul Stewart.

Nancy was born in Pontotoc County, Miss., and attended Pontotoc High School and Itawamba Junior College. While her daughters were young, she was a Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader and an active member of the Homewood PTO and Homewood High School Band Boosters. Nancy and Paul were spirited Auburn football fans and treasured their friends in the Auburn Motorhome Club. Gardening was a life-long passion. She was a Master Gardener and joined her first garden club, The Daffodils, in the 1970s. She was a member of the Camellia Garden Club and Horticulture Study Garden Club. She was a Master Judge and was a member of Ikebana, the Birmingham Fern Society, Birmingham Daylily Society, Birmingham Iris Society, Alabama and American Hosta Societies, the Blanche Dean Wildflower Society, and the Alabama Wildflower Society. She was a founding member and past president of the Alabama Hydrangea Society and a member of the American Hydrangea Society. Nancy was a Life Member of National Garden Clubs and a Life Member of the Garden Club of Alabama, where she served on the state board. As a charter member of Aldridge Botanical Gardens and member of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, she volunteered countless hours sharing her gifts and love of gardening.

Nancy was a member of Homewood Church of Christ, where funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 2 with graveside services at 1:30 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
