Former teacher pleads guilty

Ashley Pruitt, a former teacher in the Blount County system, pleaded guilty last week to charges ranging from deviant sexual intercourse to sending sexually explicit photographs herself to students.

Pruitt, who was a teacher at Locust Fork High during the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 school years, transferred to Appalachian for the 2014- 2015 school year. She was at Appalachian until January 2015.

The students in question all were in her classes at Locust Fork.

She pleaded guilty to having deviant sexual intercourse with one student, sexual intercourse with another student and sending nude photographs of herself to another student.

As part of the plea agreement, she is sentenced to 15 years in the Alabama Department of Corrections with the sentence to be split with one year served and two years under house arrest. She remains out on bond pending an appeal and she will be required to register as a sex offender.

“I am pleased we were able to resolve this case before trial,” said Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey.

“These three boys have already been subjected to enough public scrutiny as a result of Ms. Pruitt’s actions. Is is not easy for victims of sexual predators to appear at trial to discuss such personal and private matters with 12 jurors and a room full of spectators.”
