Southeastern head coach Michael Burkett resigned this week after four years at the school.

Rather unexpectedly, Southeastern is looking for a new head football coach after the resignation of Michael Burkett this week.

“I love the Remlap community and Southeastern School,” said Burkett. “This is a special place. I have had the benefit of nothing but support from everyone here. Even those who voiced disagreement with me continued to support the program, and that’s an incredible testament to the people here.

“My wife and I were discussing our five-year goals last Tuesday, and Southeastern School was a part of those for both of us. The next day, our family suffered a tragic loss. We are both sad to leave the best jobs we’ve ever had, but we want to be near our family at this time.”

Burkett was 7-33 in four seasons as head coach of the Mustangs but he had provided much-needed stability to the program. He also serves as head coach of the Southeastern baseball program and guided the Mustangs to the playoffs in three of his four seasons. His resignation is effective at the end of the year.
