Alabama U.S. Senate candidate Bradley Byrne was in Oneonta last week, preparing the way for a more targeted visit later this year or in early 2020 in connection with his challenge to the U. S. Senate seat now held by Democrat Doug Jones. Byrne (R-Mobile) is currently U. S. Representative for Alabama’s 1st Congressional District, encompassing Mobile and surrounding counties.
Before the tilt with Jones in November, he must first win the Republican primary on March 3, 2020.
“I expect to win or to be in the runoff, if there is one – I just don’t know who the other guy might be,” Byrne told The Blount Countian during his visit Thursday. “But it doesn’t matter. I still expect to win,” he added.
Byrne said he is planning a later round of town hall-type meetings to listen to and answer questions of voters around the state, and that Oneonta could appear on that sweep as well.
(Full disclosure: there is no fireplace in The Blount Countian’s offices.)
