Commission chips in $1 million to build Wallace State Oneonta Center

The Blount County Commission in its monthly business meeting Monday voted 3-0 with one abstention to appropriate $1 million toward construction of a building dedicated primarily to Wallace State Community College to use as its Oneonta academic campus center. Officers receive trauma training

Oneonta’s first responders participated in Special Operations Medical Emergency Training (S.O.M.E.T) last week and learned how to provide aid to trauma victims. Park cleanup

Volunteers from the community worked with Oneonta Councilman Nate Butler and Oneonta Park and Recreation Board member Daniel Clem in a park cleanup day Sunday. Approximately 35 volunteers worked on the fields and grounds and picked up trash throughout the park. The Park and Rec Board is looking at scheduling other cleanup days and fundraisers later this summer. -Rob Rice

Southeastern car show benefits booster club

The First Annual Southeastern Road Rally Car Show was held this past Saturday at Southeastern School in Remlap. Over 50 cars were on display ranging from a 1936 Chevrolet sedan to late model customized vehicles. At the town’s regular council meeting, Snead Police Chief Alan Hicks announced his officers had arrested Dane Willoughby of Altoona and Tim Smith of Fyffe.
