NARFE CHAPTER 942 will have the monthly meeting tomorrow, March 16, beginning at 10 a.m., at Catfish Cabin restaurant in Albertville.

E.L. AND PAULINE D. KILGORE LYCEUM Kim Cross, author of the book What Stands in a Storm, a recounting of events during the 2011 tornadoes, will speak tomorrow, March 16, at 6:30 p.m., at The Little Brick Church in Oneonta. The book includes social media exchanges among victims timed to actual television broadcasts. A reception will be hosted by the Blount County Museum beforehand and books will be available for purchase.

FIRST RESPONDERS PANCAKE BREAKFAST All first responders and their families are invited to a pancake breakfast on Saturday, March 18, from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m., at New Beginnings Baptist Church. The free breakfast is to show gratitude and appreciation to all first responders for their dedication and hard work to the communities they serve. The church is located at 5375 Ala 160 in Hayden. BLOUNT COUNTY KINDERGARTEN PRE-REGISTRATION will be held throughout the month of April at all county schools. Bring a valid birth certificate, record of immunization (blue slip), proof of residency, Social Security card, and completed registration forms. Visit www.blountboe.net or the local school for forms. Students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2017.

BLOUNTSVILLE HISTORICAL PARK The annual Daffodil Festival will be Saturday, March 18, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. featuring music, vendors, food, and historic activities.

Bring children dressed in Easter finery for photos on Saturday, April 8, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

J.B. PENNINGTON FARM EQUIPMENT CONSIGNMENT AUCTION will be Saturday, March 25, beginning at 9 a.m. Consignment fee is 10% and items may be brought to the school before noon on Friday, March 24. All types of farm equipment will be sold. Donated items will be accepted with 100% of proceeds to benefit the school’s FFA program. No junk. LANDSCAPE READY WORKSHOP The Blount County Extension office will have the workshop on Monday, April 3, at the Frank Green Building auditorium. The $10 class fee includes lunch and is limited to 50 attendees. The workshop will cover pruning, lawn maintenance, insect and disease problems, plant selection, and other home landscape issues. COMMUNITY ARTS COUNCIL of Blount County will host the Missoula Children’s Theatre camp for children entering first grade through seniors. This year’s show will be The Tortoise Versus the Hare. Auditions and role assignments will be Monday, June 12, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Oneonta High School auditorium. Camp will run that week with the performance on Saturday, June 17. BLOUNT COUNTY MEMORIAL MUSEUM Current displays and subject matter include the L&N Railroad, Hobnail glassware, vintage sewing, powder/music boxes, and vintage toys. BLOUNT SPAY/NEUTER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM will sponsor low-cost spay and neuter for pets of Blount County residents during April. B-SNAP will pay $30 toward the cost of a female spay and $20 toward the cost of a male neuter.
