Recycling Center:

Help it happen here!

Youth activist Friends of the Locust Fork River is holding a public meeting for teens to learn how to start a recycling center in Blount County. Those in the 8th through 12th grades are invited to attend and, if interested, to get involved. Don’t let sports and activity schedules get in the way; the group can work around them!

Michael Churchman, a recycling center expert and executive director of the Alabama Environmental Council, will address the meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 2, from 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. RSVP to Martha Hunter, YA!FLFR advisor, at or call 429-4120 to find out the meeting location. This meeting was rescheduled due to the snowy Jan. 12 date. This program is an opportunity that combines volunteerism, conservation, community responsibility, fun social interaction with peers, and civic involvement for teens as they learn how to work with county officials and navigate the system. In other words, this is “reality education.” Join us!
