Tuesday, Jan. 26 at Locust Fork Girls Locust Fork 49, Cleveland 43 Cleveland exploded out of the gates and controlled the first eight minutes of the game, building a 16-6 lead after one quarter. Locust Fork came back in the second quarter with a 13-9 advantage but still trailed 25-19 at the half. The third quarter proved to be the difference. The Lady Panthers couldn’t buy a basket and Locust Fork reeled off a 12-2 run to take a 31-27 lead to the fourth quarter. Cleveland got 13 points from Jessi Holder and eight from Sissy Green. Locust Fork (16-7) was led by Brandee Busenlehner with 18 points and Alyson Burke with seven. Emily Minck pulled down seven rebounds and Hannah Kirkley had six rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Boys Locust Fork 66, Cleveland 54 The home-standing Hornets outscored the visiting Panthers 18-8, 13-11, and 14-8 over the first three quarters to build a convincing 45-27 lead through three quarters. Cleveland got 15 points from Chaz Cornelius, 12 from Josh Fallin, and 11 from Austin Hazelrig.Locust Fork (12-8) got 15 points each from Kyle Smith and Josh Lawler. Austin Burgett added 12 and Taylor Hughes added 11. at Oneonta Boys Albertville 57, Oneonta 54 Albertville controlled the first half and took a 28-17 lead to the break. The Redskins played better in the second half but the 5A Aggies hung on for the victory. Albertville got 15 points from T.J. Vines and 10 from T.J. Pams.Oneonta (17-6) was led by Ryne Wester’s 19 points. Keenan Warren added 14 points and Cory Glasscock had six points, nine rebounds, and six steals. at Hayden Girls Hayden 78, J.B. Pennington 40 The Lady Wildcats led 19-4 and 44-10 at the first two quarter breaks and were never threatened. J.B. Pennington was led by Shae South with 13 points.Hayden (24-2) got 16 points from Krista Stricklin, 15 points and 10 rebounds from Tiffany Myrick, 14 points from Mallory Ray, and 11 points from Madison Durham. Boys J.B. Pennington 53, Hayden 49 Looking for their first win of the year, the Wildcats took a 13-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 20-18 at the half. However, Pennington outscored the Wildcats 18-8 in the third quarter and that proved to be the difference. Hayden was led by Troy Fines with 13 points while Seth Aderhold chipped in 11.Pennington got a game-high 16 points from Jake Pettus to go with 15 from Mitchell Doyle and 11 from Logan Cornelius. at West End Girls Susan Moore 71, West End 22 The Lady Bulldogs romped to a 25-1 lead after one quarter and buried the Lady Patriots. West End got six points each from Dixie Smith and Torrie Steele.Susan Moore (16-9) was led by Hannah Holmes with 25 points and Kaitlyn Williams with 15. Holmes collected 11 steams on the night. Thursday, Jan. 28 at Douglas Boys Oneonta 59, Douglas 32 The Redskins were in charge throughout, building a 28-14 halftime lead and rolling to the road victory. Douglas was led by Kyle Buchanan with 10 points.
Oneonta (18-6) got a game-high 16 points from Ryne Wester. Keenan Warren added 12 points. Trevor Sanders had six points to go with seven rebounds and six assists. Appalachian led 19-17 at the half but the Lady Lions outscored the visitors 20-2 to take a commanding 37-21 lead to the final quarter. Appalachian (3-14) got eight points each from Lydia Berkey and Jessica Alexander. Victory Christian (8-13) got a game-high 29 points from A’iesha Hayes. Boys Appalachian 58, Victory Christian 40The Eagles rolled over the winless Lions. Appalachian jumped out to a 13-6 lead after one quarter and never let the Lions back in the game. Victory Christian got 14 points from Jacob Bearden.Appalachian (6-13) got 15 points from Jonathan Metzler, 13 points and 11 rebounds from Cameron Cox, and 10 points from Cameron Downs. at Cleveland Girls Cleveland 68, St. Bernard 16 The Lady Panthers jumped all over the Lady Saints building leads of 19-3 and 42-10 at the first two quarter breaks. Cleveland (13-12) got 13 points and 12 rebounds from Sissy Green and 12 points and eight rebounds from Jessi Holder. Ta Turner added 12 points. Friday, Jan. 29 at Locust Fork Girls Hayden 54, Locust Fork 43 In a rematch of the Blount County Tournament championship game of the week before, Locust Fork again led early but couldn’t hold off the Lady Wildcats. The Lady Hornets led 24-20 at the half but Hayden outscored the host team 9-3 and 25-16 over the final two quarters.Locust Fork (17-8) got 14 points from Brandee Busenlehner and 10 from Emily Minck. Hayden was led by Krista Strickland’s game-high 33 points. Mallory Ray had eight points and four steals and Tiffany Myrick had four points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks. Boys Locust Fork 60, Hayden 50 The Hornets led 18-11 after one quarter and increased the margin to 33-19 at the half. Hayden outscored Locust Fork 20-14 in the final quarter but it wasn’t enough. Hayden got eight points from Troy Fines and seven each from Skylar Powell and Seth Aderhold. Locust Fork (13-9) was led by Taylor Hughes with 20 points while Clay Smith and Roman Owensby added 10 each. Kyle Smith pulled down 11 rebounds and Clay Smith dished out eight assists. at Susan Moore Girls Susan Moore 65, J.B. Pennington 19 For the second game in a row the Lady Bulldogs took command early as the home team led 22-0 after one quarter and 36-7 at the half. Tara Graham led the Lady Tigers with five points.Susan Moore (17-9) got 15 points from Kaylie Bullard, 14 each from Hannah Holmes and Kaitlyn Williams, and 10 from Kayla Waddle. Holmes added 10 rebounds and six steals. Monday, Feb. 1 at Corner Girls Cleveland 55, Corner 49 OT Cleveland led 27-21 at the half but Corner outscored the Lady Panthers 13-9 and 11-9 over the final two quarters to force overtime. The Lady Panthers then held the Lady Yellow Jackets to just four points in the extra period to get the win. Cleveland (14-12) got 17 points and nine rebounds from Sissy Green to go with 15 points and seven rebounds from Jessi Holder. Leandra Glass had 12 points and four rebounds. Green went over 1000 rebounds for her career during the game. |
