STUDENTS IN THE NEWS

SAVAN LOWERY is the recipient of a four-year University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) collegiate honors scholarship valued up to $12,000. Daughter of Scott Lowery of Remlap and Carol Ann Jordan of Hayden, Savan is a senior at Locust Fork High School where she is a member of the FCCLA, NHS, NAO, and Scholars Bowl. At UAB, she will major in high school education/Spanish.

ASHLYN E. KAETZ of Hayden has earned a BM degree at the University of Montevallo. She was one of the more than 200 students who received their diplomas at fall commencement Dec. 18. Following the commencement address and award of diplomas, all graduates were inducted into the 21,000-member National Alumni Association for the university.

BLOUNT COUNTY STUDENTS named to honor rolls at universities in the state are listed. SAMFORD UNIVERSITY, dean’s list for the fall semester: Emily Bowen George, Amberlyn Morgan Richardson, and Michael Kenneth Robinson of Hayden; Laura Ashlee Graves of Locust Fork; Mary Elizabeth Avery, Chloe Brianne Sloan, Meagan Elizabeth Sloan, and Zachary Scott Smith of Oneonta; and Melissa Jane Perryman of Remlap. TROY UNIVERSITY: Ryan Stephens of Hayden, chancellor’s list for those with perfect 4.0 gradepoint averages, and Caitlin Coffey of Oneonta, provost’s list for those with 3.65 to 4.0 grade-point averages.
