ALMA LORENE BURTTRAM, 85, of Oneonta, died Jan. 28, 2010, at St. Vincent’s Blount. She was a member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church and had been a nursing assistant at Blount Memorial Hospital for a number of years. A Blount native, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Buren and Minnie Neely Bullard. Others predeceasing her were husband Wilson C. Burttram, brothers Alfred and Carter Bullard, and sister Iva Lee Love. Surviving are daughters Laura B. (L.T.) Salmon of Palmerdale and Kay B. (Perry K.) Butts of Rosa; son Harmon C. Interment followed at Green’s Chapel Cemetery. MILDRED JEWEL NOLEN CORNELISON, 83, of Oneonta, died Jan. 31, 2010, at St. Vincent’s East. An Alabama native, she was a member of Oneonta Worship Center and a child care worker. She was predeceased by parents Grover Cleveland and Myrtle Hand Peters, husband Robert Nolen, and brother G.C. Peters. Surviving are sons Jerry Ray (Katrina) Nolen of Jonesboro, Ga., and Russell (Debra) Nolen of Highland Lake; daughters Shirley (Don) Horton and Charlotte Nolen Ziegler, both of Oneonta, Wanda (Jim) Kornegay of Berry Mountain, Dianne (Jerry) Hill of Straight Mountain; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters Ruby Cranford of Gadsden, Mary Hawkins of Sardis, Lois Bergen of Arkansas; brothers Arvil Peters of Glencoe and Cecil Peters of Cleveland. VERTIS HULLETT, 93, died Jan. 26, 2010, at his residence in Blountsville. An Alabama native, he was retired after 33 years as a steel worker at U.S. Steel. He was a member of Union Hill Church of the Nazarene. Predeceasing him were his wife Zora Bell Murphree Hullett; parents Waitus Asbury and Ethel Jackson Hullett; daughters Sharon Clark, Kathy Weems, and Linda Fox; brothers J.C., Vernon, and Quinton Hullett; sister Vera Jones. Born in Cullman County, she was the daughter of the late Noah Lee and Hattie Lee Hammock Young and the widow of Claud Kilpatrick, her husband of 50 years. She graduated from Susan Moore High School in 1938 and was a charter member of New Emmaus Missionary Baptist Church. Predeceasing her in addition to her parents and husband were son Billy Rex Kilpatrick; brothers Huel, Shellie, J.T., Lowell, and Reese Young; sister Pauline Beason. JIMMIE JUNIOR LEWIS, 66, of Remlap, died Jan. 26, 2010, at St. Vincent’s East. Born in Kentucky, he was the son of the late Hager and Pearlie Lewis. He served in the U.S. Army, was employed as a maintenance worker at the Foundry, and was a member of Pine Mountain Community Church. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother John C. Lewis, sister Corsie Mullins, and half-brother James Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Short, Marshall Baker, Roy Buttram, Carl Jenkins, and Sherman Glassgow. FLORA GRAVES PETTIT, 98, died Jan. 28, 2010, in Heflin. She was born March 12, 1911, to Thaddeus and Lounettie Graves, who lived in the Graves Gap settlement near Hayden. She resided in the area until 2001 when, because of failing health, she moved to Buchanan, Ga., to be near her grandchildren. She was the fourth and only survivor of six children. Along with her parents, brothers, and sisters, she was predeceased by her husband G.C. Pettit and son Tom Pettit. Surviving are grandson Rick (Kimberly) Pettit; granddaughters Lisa (Eddie) Ayers of Buchanan, Ga., and Regina (Wade) McElroy of Muscadine; seven greatgrandchildren. Services were held Saturday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. at Graves Gap Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Lemley Chapel directed. DAVID WAYNE SELF, 36, of Snead, died Jan. 27, 2010, at St. Vincent’s Blount. An Alabama native, he was the son of Kathryn “Jean” Erwin Self and the late Wayne Gray Self. Surviving besides his mother are daughter Emma Kay Wilks; brother Robert (Brandi) Self; sister Amanda Self; nieces and nephews Katrina Self, Kendall Self, Kady Self, Robert Self Jr., Susie Self, Brooklyn (Anthony) Wood; aunts Martha Self and Nell Sexton; uncles Royce Erwin and Raymond Erwin.
