The Southern Democrat, February 6, 1941
The City Aldermen have passed an ordinance to restrict the time of parking automobiles in some parts of the town. A two hour limit has been placed on 1st Avenue between Fourth St. and First St. between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. On the highway the time limit is 15 minutes in front of the post office and to the Woco-Pep corner. Another thing that the Council decided upon was to put the police officers in uniform. This measure was decided upon at the last meeting and will go into effect just as soon as uniforms can be obtained. The parking ordinance was brought about chiefly because of local business men who insist on parking on First Avenue and take up valuable parking space that should be left for people who come into town to trade. Double-Header Basketball Games For Friday Night The Oneonta School and Independent teams meet the Cleveland teams in a double-game program at the Community House in Oneonta. Cleveland, under head coach Gene Self, has a fast team in both the school and town outfits and two fast contests are in prospect. The local high school quintet has been improving rapidly under Coach Porch and shows signs of developing into a real basketball team. The local Jaycees won from Moore-Handley Hardware, of Birmingham, and journeyed to Grove Hill last week and marked up a win over the South Alabama team. |
