A memorial to the 20 Blount Countians who fell in the Vietnam war was dedicated in drizzling rain Sunday in Oneonta. Memorial markers, one for each man, had been moved from the base of flags on the Avenue of Flags and are embedded in a stone and masonry arch that now serves as a permanent memorial. More...

Rob Rice has been named editor of The Blount Countian, effective immediately. Rice, who has been managing editor of the paper since 2004, replaces Molly Howard, who will remain as publisher. Molly Howard has served as editor since 1976, when she succeeded her mother, Mrs. Rice M. Howard, who had replaced her husband in 1964. More...

The Warrior Town Council last night failed to rescind the Dec. 7 tax ordinance extending a 1.5 percent sales tax into its police jurisdiction. The jurisdiction includes part of West Blount County. James (Coach) and Mildred Weaver Williams will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Jan. 30. They are planning a trip instead of a reception or a party.
