Golden Eagles run over Hornets

The Jacksonville Golden Eagles were playing for a playoff berth last Friday night and it showed. The visitors pounded out 352 rushing yards and cruised to a 36-12 victory at Locust Fork.

 

Locust Fork got a solid game from senior quarterback Kyle Smith, who completed 14 of 27 passes for 207 yards with two interceptions.

His favorite target was Colton Armstrong who finished with five catches for 102 yards. Taylor Hughes led the Hornet rushing attack with 60 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Chris Davis added 23 yards and a touchdown on eight attempts.

Junior middle linebacker Matthew Checkley led the Locust Fork defense with eight tackles and a forced fumble.

Jacksonville improved to 6-3 overall and finished the 4A Region 6 schedule at 4-3. Locust Fork fell to 3-6 overall, 1- 6 in the region.
