Quilters Guild to display quilts
      Blount County Quilters Guild will display members’ beautifully crafted quilts during a show scheduled next month at Palisades Park. A nominal fee of $3 will be charged for the show, to be open between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, and Saturday, Oct. 24.

Dynamic Ina Brown
      Ina Brown is a dynamo of talent, energy, and compassion. She is a certified activities director at TLC Nursing Center in Oneonta. As a first-grader at Cleveland, Ina won first place in a drawing contest with her “Horse and Barn” entry. Because of her busy schedule at home and at the nursing center, her “art bug” lay dormant until around mid-2008.

Baker - Helms
      Rachel Baker and Brent Helms, both of Birmingham, announce their upcoming marriage Oct. 3 in Sheridan, Wyo. The bride-elect is the daugher of Dr. Kevin and Anne Baker of Sheridan. Her grandparents are Corinne Baker and the late Robert Baker of Stromsburg, Neb., and Philip and Jeanne Brusnahan of Lincoln, Neb. She is employed in Birmingham as a registered nurse.

Full tuition given local grad student
      Colene Burns, a 2003 graduate of Hayden High School, has been awarded a full tuition, full assistantship to the University of Mississippi’s doctoral program in economics. An annual stipend is also included with the award.

Information published about him in the Sept. 16 issue of The Blount Countian was accompanied by the photo of another serviceman. Nominated to the academy by Sen. Johnny Isakson, Weaver received a Third Mate merchant marine license and a U.S.
