Region play heats up

Eagles quiet Thunder
      The Appalachian Eagles rolled up almost 400 yards of offense while limiting Jacksonville Christian to just 112 in a 42-13 thrashing of the home-standing Thunder last Friday night. The Eagle ground game was especially potent. Appalachian rushed for 324 yards and four touchdowns on 43 attempts.

Bulldogs buck Broncos
      The Susan Moore Bulldogs piled up 500 yards of offense in a 47-15 thumping of the visiting Holly Pond Broncos in the region opener last Friday night. Susan Moore sprinted out to an early 15-0 lead before Holly Pond got on the board with a short touchdown run on the first play of the second quarter.

Hokes Bluff runs past Locust Fork
      The Hokes Bluff Eagles scored 28 unanswered, second-quarter points to pull away from the visiting Locust Fork Hornets en route to a 49-14 win last Friday night. Locust Fork got a touchdown on the opening drive of the game from Chris Davis and the first quarter ended with the teams tied 7-7.

Lions dump Wildcats
      The Haleyville Lions used a solid defense and Hayden mistakes to post a 21-6 victory at Hayden last Friday night. Hayden never got going offensively against the stingy Haleyville defense – finishing with just 121 yards of total offense – and turned the ball over five times on the evening.

Tigers batter Bulldogs
      The J.B. Pennington Tigers used a powerful running game to take out Carbon Hill 34-8 last Friday night in Walker County. Pennington jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and enjoyed a 21-8 halftime lead. The Pennington defense turned away the Bulldogs in the third quarter and the Tiger offense put the game away with a pair of secondhalf touchdowns.

      Jax Glass, 4-year-old preschooler from Cleveland, proudly displays his very nice string of shellcrackers. He caught them on his Sponge Bob rod and reel while out with his fishing buddy Pappy (Richard Ray). Jaxon is the son of Kristin and Jeff Glass and brother to big sister Caylen.

      The Cleveland Panthers went to Sulligent last Friday night and did everything but giftwrap the game for the Blue Devils as the home team took advantage of several costly mistakes to post a 35-12 victory.

      Oneonta turned the tables on visiting Jacksonville last Friday night. The Redskins pounded out more than 400 yards on the ground and smothered the potent Eagle running game to win 52-0 in the region opener for both teams.
