‘Making tough times more painful’
      There is a lot of coverage in the papers these days about elected officials putting a rate cap on payday loans. I wanted to make sure you heard from someone involved in the industry. I work in a payday loan store. Every day I go to work with pride because I know I am helping people who have no other options to solve their financial difficulties.

‘Join hands to preserve ...’
      We are very blessed and fortunate to live here in the foothills of these beautiful Appalachian Mountains. Many of us cut our teeth here looking out to the mountains. These trees and waterways are part of us. Our heritage is being threatened now by the coal mining industry. My plea is to all of our people here in Blount County, and also other people of our nation interested in our environment.

Child safety
      As you are no doubt aware in the mornings and afternoons there are considerable traffic problems in and around the Blountsville Elementary School due to parents dropping off and picking up their child/children. As a solution to the problem I would encourage you to consider taking advantage of the free bus service that the school supplies.

Many school problems can be solved
      I want to extend a public thank you to Blountsville police chief Ray Baxley and our school superintendent Jim Carr for their great work and involvement in getting the Blountsville Elementary School traffic problems solved. It is apparent that when we open school a few minutes early and parents can drop off their children like last year that the cars keep moving and no back up occurs.

‘FLFR supports Rosa residents
      Friends of the Locust Fork River supports the Rosa Coal Group’s position regarding the Rosa Coal Mining Venture because it is in the Locust Fork River watershed and will have an effect on that watershed. FLFR does not have direct experience dealing with mining companies, but is learning more every day.
