Open meeting about Rosa coal mining

A meeting open to the public for countians to learn about Rosa coal mine issues will be held Monday, July 27, at 7 p.m. at Rosa Town Hall. Meeting organizers say they fear the mining proposed would affect the environment, public health, and property values.

Nelson Brooke, Black Warrior Riverkeeper, will speak at the meeting, being held especially for concerned citizens residing in the 3255-acre proposed Rosa coal mine site. He will present a short program on the topic and share ways to address concerns to the Alabama Surface Mining Commission.

Those in charge of the meeting list the following as most likely to be affected: those living or working on and around Berry Mountain, in Rosa, along U.S. 231 between Rosa and Cleveland, along county road 26 between Cold Branch and Royal, between Cold Branch and Five Points road; and employees and students at Cleveland schools and businesses.
